The Joys of a Staycation

Jul 19, 2018 | StreamTeam Travel Blog

Most us are fortunate enough to live in place that others only dream about. From the sandy beaches, mountain or lake areas, thousands of people flock to our hometowns to experience for a week or two what we experience every day.

I am fortunate enough to live on the Outer Banks of NC where we have over 100 miles of wide sandy beaches and many historical attractions. As our population from 30,000 swells to well over 400,000 in the summer I seldom take advantage of what my area has to over until the off season.

OBX Staycation

For the last few years I have taken a Staycation and taken advantage of my beautiful hometown. While accommodations are free, I encourage you to contact one of the many local rental companies in the area to achieve the full guest experience. From Corolla to Ocracoke Island, our local rental companies offer homes from 18 Bedrooms fully loaded to cozy cottages and condos and there is nothing like waking up to the sunrise over the Atlantic!

First on my list was going to the beach for as many days as weather allowed. There is nothing more relaxing that your toes in the sand, dipping into the salty ocean waves and reading a good book.

Next up is a trip to the NC Aquarium in Manteo with my granddaughter. We have a wonderful aquarium with lots of outside trails on the waterfront and it is a great place to escape from the heat for a few hours. As side trip into the quaint downtown area with shops and restaurants rounds out the day.

Our latest attraction, the H2OBX waterpark is a great way to catch a few rays, float down the lazy river and let the kiddos frolic wave pool and slides or in my case, let my granddaughter play in the kid size area.

A trip to the farmers market is always a treat that everyone enjoys. Lots of fresh local vegetables and fruits, homemade baked goods, jams and jellies.

With so much to see and do, it is hard to pack everything in to one Staycation but hey, since we live here we can take our time and enjoy it another day.

I encourage everyone to take advantage of their hometown and experience it the way our visitors do. They envy our lifestyle and save up all year to experience one week of what we have every day.
